After 21 days of unsuccessful mediation, on May 18, 2021, employees of the mineral water producer “Borjomi” (IDS Borjomi Georgia) went on strike demanding higher wages and improved working conditions — including the right to breaks and rest days, as some employees were reportedly working seven days a week. As a result, both factories completely stopped operating, and around 400 workers set up tents at the company’s entrance.
Employees said their salaries ranged between 400 and 500 GEL. On May 20, the striking workers organized a march in Borjomi.
On May 26, it was announced that an agreement had been reached: around 400 employees’ demands for higher wages, better working conditions, and overtime pay were met. Workers returned to their jobs on May 27.
