In May 2021, employees of a flour-producing factory in Guria (LLC “Guria Express,” also known as “Gulistani”) went on strike demanding higher wages and better working conditions. Twenty workers participated in the strike, which halted production.

The media reported on the protest on May 6, though the strike had actually begun on May 4.

According to the employees, their monthly salary was 650 GEL, and they were demanding a 150 GEL raise. They also pointed out the lack of proper changing rooms and a functional kitchen. In solidarity, some citizens collected money for the workers—about 1,700 GEL, according to media reports.

On June 6, it became known that the company had filed a lawsuit in response to the strike. The workers also organized a march.

On June 12, the 38th day of the protest, an agreement was reached between the company and the employees, and a new contract was signed.
