On March 8, 2020, the Women’s Movement held a protest against femicide, calling it a severe “social problem.” The organizers presented alarming statistics, noting that in just the first two months of 2020, eight women had already been killed as a result of femicide. In addition to the murders, various forms of violence against women were on the rise, including cases in which former husbands attacked or stabbed their ex-wives.

On International Women’s Day, March 8, demonstrators staged a performance demanding stronger societal and institutional responses to gender-based violence. According to the organizers, “the perpetrator sees the blame in everyone else,” yet true change requires every individual to take responsibility.
